Robin Jones – Actor, Director, Playwright, and Theatre Maker

Robin Jones’s journey into theatre began almost by accident—though perhaps destiny is the better word. His father, a teacher and sponsor of the high school drama club, often cast young Robin in musicals he directed. Watching both his parents perform in community theatre and stepping into those productions himself, Robin discovered a lifelong passion for the stage. What started as childhood appearances quickly grew into a career defined by versatility, creativity, and a deep love of storytelling.

Over the years, Robin has built an impressive résumé across stage acting, directing, comedy, and writing. As an actor, he has embodied roles ranging from Don Quixote in Man of La Mancha to Richard in Time Stands Still, from the eccentric Renfield in Dracula to the whimsical Sir Robin in Spamalot. His performances have graced theatres across Maine, California, and beyond, including the Grand Auditorium, Everyman Rep, New Surry Theatre, and Oakland Civic Theatre. Equally at home in Shakespearean classics (A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Measure for Measure) and contemporary works (Lucky Guy, Picnic), Robin’s range reflects both his formal training and his instinctive connection to character. Comedy has been another cornerstone of his career.

Robin has hosted and produced stand-up and variety shows such as KULCHA! and Gypsies, Tramps & Comedians, and performed in sketch comedy troupes from San Francisco to Houston. His sharp wit and improvisational skills—honed under teachers like Michael McDonald of the Groundlings—have made him a natural in both scripted and spontaneous performance. As a director, Robin has helmed productions that span genres and generations, from The Farnsworth Invention and Venus in Fur to beloved family musicals like Beauty and the Beast Jr. and Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr. His work with Midcoast Actors Studio, New Surry Theatre, and The Grand in Ellsworth, Maine, reflects his commitment to nurturing community theatre and mentoring young performers.

He has also led youth theatre camps and audition workshops, passing on his knowledge to the next generation. Robin’s creative spirit extends to playwriting. His latest work, I Know It’s Gruesome, But Is It Art? (aka The Vincent Price Murder Case), is a witty murder mystery set in London, 1967. Inspired by his lifelong love of detective fiction—from Agatha Christie to Sherlock Holmes—and sparked by a pandemic-era exchange with a fellow writer, the play imagines Vincent Price as the unlikely sleuth of an impossible crime in a Mayfair art gallery. With eight principal characters and a blend of suspense and humor, the play showcases Robin’s ability to merge genre traditions with theatrical flair.

Beyond the stage, Robin has worked extensively in film exhibition. He currently serves as one of the managers of AMC Causeway 13, a multiplex in Boston’s TD Garden area. His career in cinema management began at sixteen and has continued alongside his theatre work, including a stint as Film Program Director at The Grand in Ellsworth. Though the commute from Providence can be demanding, Robin values the chance to remain connected to both film and theatre while balancing his family life. Robin Jones is more than an actor or director—he is a storyteller, educator, and community builder. Whether performing Shakespeare, directing contemporary drama, hosting comedy shows, or crafting original plays, he brings a rare combination of artistry, humor, and heart. His career reflects not only a dedication to craft but also a belief in theatre’s power to entertain, challenge, and connect us all. CONTACT - robinjonesfilm@gmail.com
